Your Over-the-Counter (OTC) Card (1)

As a VNS Health EasyCare (HMO) member in 2024, you get a card that gives you up to $87 each quarter (every three months) to purchase hundreds of OTC items. What does an OTC card pay for? ›

Use your OTC Plus card to pay for non-prescription drugs, health-related items, fitness equipment and activity trackers, healthy foods, and home utilities such as gas, oil, electric, water, and internet service. Save at your neighborhood pharmacy, farmers' markets, online, and other participating retailers.

What items can I buy with my OTC card? ›

Eligible items include:
  • Nicotine replacement therapy items.
  • Band aids and first aid supplies.
  • Food scales.
  • Oral hygiene care products.
  • OTC antibiotic creams/ointments.
  • OTC antihistamines and allergy sprays.
  • OTC cold/cough/flu drugs.
  • OTC pain relievers.

How do I know if I qualify for an OTC card? ›

Who Qualifies for an OTC Card?
  • Age: You generally need to be at least 65 years old to qualify for Medicare.
  • Work history: You must have worked and paid into the Medicare system through taxes for at least 10 years (or 40 quarters).
  • Disability: Some people under 65 with qualifying disabilities can also enroll in Medicare.

How often do you get money on your OTC card? ›

Yes. As long as you are an active member, your OTC Card will automatically reload on the first day of every quarter (January 1, April 1, July 1, and October 1). You have the full three months to use your benefit amount. Be aware that any balance remaining at the end of a quarter does not roll over to the next quarter.

OTC items are not eligible for reimbursem*nt if they are normally used for general health, are not used to treat a medical condition (e.g. toothpaste, mouthwash, lotion, shampoo) or are cosmetic in nature (e.g. teeth whitening products, wrinkle reducers). See additional examples in the OTC Chart.
