Cage fighting isnt self defence BUT...Saturday is leisure day so once again Im at a show. Not being a ref or judge today which means its more relaxing but I do have 2 young fighters competing mma.One is a 1st time novice and the other coming off a win in Thailand at pro MuayThai. Both will be tough bouts and on paper are the underdogs.MMA is what many call cage fighting. Its not as weird as many think and since the unified amateur and adult rules were developed and adopted by most organisations its a great combat sport. As it includes standup and groundwork It tests peoples MuayThai and boxing skills along with wrestling and jiu-jitsu.Amateurs dont allow elbows or knees to the head but apart from that its pretty similar to what you will see on TV.As someone who also teaches situational awareness and self defence mainly in the corporate sector Im often told sports are not the same.To a large extent I completly agree. However they do have 2 crossover points that are crucial. The 1st being the nerves, the adenaline and fear. Fighters are often looking relaxed or loud and brash but when wrapping their hands and walking out to the ring or cage with them I witness the nerves. The smell of fear is there however anyone tries to hide it.Just like any physical confrontation the body and mind react. Those who say they learn self defence but have never witnessed experienced or felt that will be shocked how powerful the reaction can be.The second impact is the fact someone is actually trying to hit you. Nothing straightens you out as much as a full power punch in the face. It was Mike Tyson who famously stated that everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face. Those 2 elements are why although I teach a lot of self defence courses it is important to ensure people face reality. Yes principles are important but techniques unless drilled repeatedly will vanish once fear takes hold and you get hit hard. Its why I push situational awareness so much. Knowing how to not be in that situation is crucial.I recognise that many dont like to hear that but for me ensuring people remain safe is the most important factor. If you are learning self defence make sure its realistic and that situational awareness is part of that.#situationalawareness #selfdefense #people

Fighting from the ground refers to engaging in combat or self-defence while in a prone or supine position, typically on the ground. This can occur in various contexts, such as martial arts, military combat, or self-defense situations. Ground fighting techniques are important to know because fights can end up on the ground due to grappling or takedowns. In martial arts, ground fighting is often a component of disciplines like Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, Sambo, and wrestling. These arts emphasize techniques such as sweeps, submissions, joint locks, and positional control to gain an advantage over an opponent on the ground. Ground fighting is particularly useful when facing a larger or stronger opponent, as it allows for leveraging body position and technique to neutralize strength advantages. In military combat, ground fighting can occur when soldiers engage in close-quarters combat or when they find themselves in a compromised position during a firefight. Soldiers often receive training in hand-to-hand combat and ground fighting techniques to effectively engage enemies in such situations. In self-defense scenarios, ground fighting skills are essential for protecting oneself if taken to the ground by an attacker. Knowing how to escape from disadvantageous positions, defend against strikes, and apply submissions or locks can be crucial for survival. It's important to note that ground fighting has its risks and limitations. When fighting on the ground, one is vulnerable to strikes from multiple angles, including from other attackers. Therefore, it is crucial to be aware of the environment and assess the situation to determine the best course of action. To become proficient in ground fighting, it is recommended to seek training from qualified instructors in martial arts schools or combat training centers. They can guide you through proper techniques, drills, and sparring sessions to develop your skills and improve your effectiveness in ground fighting situations.

🥊♟ Who would have thought MMA and chess are similar sports? ♟🥊🔥 Let me associate the intensity and physicality (and sometimes brutality) of Mixed Martial Arts (#MMA) with the strategic, intellectual and noble game of #chess. Surprisingly, these seemingly different activities share more similarities that one would have thought. Tonight will be special, I am going to see live the Colosseum Fight Night (CFN) for the first time as a sponsor. Crazy connection I keep hearing.🔥🧠 #Mental Warfare: At the core of both MMA and chess lies the need for sharp mental acuity. In chess, players must anticipate their opponent's moves, devise intricate strategies, and #adapt their plans in real-time. Similarly, MMA fighters must analyze their opponent's fighting style, exploit weaknesses, and make split-second decisions during high-pressure situations. Both require mental toughness and the ability to stay calm under intense pressure.🔴🟡 #Strategy and Tactics: MMA and chess are both games of strategy and tactics. In chess, players plan their moves, foreseeing potential consequences and adjusting their strategy as the game progresses. Similarly, MMA fighters employ various #tactics, such as striking, grappling, or submissions, to outmaneuver their opponents and capitalize on weaknesses.💪 #Physical and Intellectual Conditioning: While the physical demands of MMA are evident, chess also requires rigorous intellectual #conditioning. Chess players train their minds (brain is a muscle too) to think several moves ahead, visualize patterns, and calculate possibilities. Likewise, MMA fighters undergo rigorous physical training to enhance their strength, agility, endurance, and reflexes.🌟 #Timing and Patience: Timing plays a crucial role in both MMA and chess. In chess, a well-timed move can drastically alter the course of the game. Similarly, in MMA, fighters must exhibit #patience, waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike, grapple, or execute a submission. The ability to read an opponent's movements and exploit the right moment is paramount in achieving victory in both arenas.🤝 #Respect and Sportsmanship: Despite the competitive nature of both sports, MMA and chess foster a strong sense of respect and sportsmanship. In chess, players acknowledge their opponent's skill and often engage in post-match analysis, sharing insights and #learning from each other. Similarly, in MMA, fighters demonstrate mutual respect before and after the bout, recognizing the dedication and sacrifices made by their adversaries.🌍 The diverse disciplines can find common ground after all. So, whether you find yourself drawn to the fierce clashes inside the octagon or the exhilarating battles on the chessboard, appreciate the dedication, skill, and passion exhibited by those who partake in these both sports.__________________🥊 Alexander Horvath#MMA #Chess #Sportsmanship #Strategy #MentalAcuity #Respect #UFC #Octagon International Chess Federation Chess.com

Whether it is your business, career, education or favourite hobby, always approach your day with a "service to others" mentality. Before you can become successful, you must have the ability to help others and make them feel good. You do this, and you will reap the rewards. And the rewards are not just tangible, like getting ahead in business. There are intangible benefits, such as feeling happy about what you do. I am privileged to have a role where I can guide others to achieve their goals and be the best they can be. I love feeling good about doing "my job".
