Teriyaki Noodles

I love anything teriyaki flavored! My favorite noodle to pair with this quick and easy sauce is ramen. It’s so versatile, you can pair it with practically anything.

You can eat it with chicken, steak bites, or mixed vegetables. I also love pairing it with steamed broccoli and carrots. Don’t be shy with the vegetables! There are so many delicious options that would taste amazing with this homemade teriyaki sauce.

This bowl of teriyaki noodles is also a great side dish or even something to have as a snack. It’s a simple sauce that has the perfect flavor balance. The consistency is just right and coats everything nicely.

Ingredients

Noodles: You can use many different styles of noodles for this recipe. You probably already have something in your pantry at home. I prefer ramen, but udon, rice noodles, whole wheat spaghetti, or lo mein will also work.

Soy Sauce: Soy sauce has a simple but powerful umami flavor. It adds a combination of salty and savory flavors to the noodles.

Brown Sugar: Brown sugar balances out the saltiness with some sweetness.

Cornstarch: Cornstarch thickens the sauce and gives it a sticky consistency.

Garlic and Ginger: Minced garlic paired with ground ginger produces the maximum flavor with the least effort. It gives a pleasantly warming flavor with a bit of sweetness to the sauce.

Vegetable Oil: I like using vegetable oil to saute the garlic because it’s a neutral tasting oil.

Garnish: The green onions and sesame seeds add the perfect amount of flavor to garnish these delicious noodles.

How To Make Teriyaki Noodles

Start off by boiling your noodles of choice. My personal favorite is ramen noodles (with the flavor packet thrown away)! Once the noodles are cooked, drain them in a colander, and rinse. Set the noodles aside until later.

To a small mixing bowl, add the soy sauce, brown sugar, cornstarch, and ginger. Whisk together until completely combined. Set this aside. (See the recipe card below for the full printable instructions.)

Heat a large nonstick skillet. Once hot, add the oil and swirl to coat the bottom of the pan. Once the oil is hot, add the garlic. Saute until the garlic is aromatic and golden.

Before adding the teriyaki sauce to the pan, whisk once more to incorporate any sugar that may have settled at the bottom. Stir in the teriyaki sauce, while whisking continuously, until it has thickened.

What Are The Best Noodles For Stir Fry?

Ramen: Ramen is great for this recipe because it is super quick to make, and the flavor pairs well.

Udon: Udon is also a good choice because it is light and has a mild flavor that allows the sauce to be the star of the dish. Many Japanese restaurants use them.

Lo Mein: Lo mein is another delicious option to use. They have a slightly chewy texture.

Rice Noodle: The biggest plus to using rice noodles is that they are gluten free. To make the whole dish gluten free, you’d need to substitute the soy sauce with Tamari.

What Goes Well With Teriyaki Noodles?

You can either add vegetables and protein to these noodles to make it a full meal, or you can serve it with some side dishes. Great additions to this recipe are cabbage, shredded carrot, broccoli florets, chicken, beef, shrimp, tofu, or salmon.

You can also serve this as a side for stir fry. Spring rolls, steamed dumplings, roasted broccoli, fried eggs, and grilled meats are all delicious sides for stir fry noodles.

Prep Time5 minutes

Cook Time7 minutes

Total Time7 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1/2 pound Asian style noodle (udon, ramen, rice noodles or lo mein; 8 ounces)
  • 1/3 cup low-sodium soy sauce (or Tamari)
  • 3 Tablespoons packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 Tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 2 Tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 medium cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 green onion (diced, optional, for garnish)
  • 1/2 teaspoon sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add the noodles and cook according to the package instructions. Once the noodles are done, drain in a colander and rinse. Set aside.
  2. To a small mixing bowl, add the soy sauce, brown sugar, cornstarch, and ginger. Whisk to combine, then set aside.
  3. Heat a large nonstick skillet over medium-heat. Add the oil and swirl to coat the bottom of the pan. Once the oil is hot, add in the minced garlic and saute for 1-2 minutes while stirring constantly to prevent burning (until the garlic is aromatic and has just started to turn golden).
  4. Before adding the sauce to the pan, give it another quick whisk to loosen up the sugar that may have settled at the bottom of the bowl. Pour the sauce into the pan while whisking constantly. Simmer the teriyaki sauce for about 3-5 minutes while whisking occasionally, or until the sauce has thickened.
  5. Once the sauce is thick and bubbly, add the cooked noodles to the pan. Use tongs to gently toss the noodles through the sauce until they are fully coated.
  6. Garnish with diced green onions and sesame seeds. Serve immediately.
